The final day of the festival is the fire works display.It is a magnificient show, with both sides trying to get the upper hand.New techniques are tried every year to bring out the best performance.The quality and quantity of the fire works are discussed by the people for many days after the event.
Another attraction of the festival is the Ana pandal which is an arch like structure , where the decorated elephants are standing.The pandal is fully decorated with coloured electric lamps give out different lights when switched on.
The festival is believed to be the birth day of the presiding deity of the village .The vela falls on the 2nd or 3rd April .The competing groups Nenmara & Vallangi have their own temples plus a common temple, the Nellikulangara temple, where the twon groups can mingle.

The festivities starts 10 day earlier than the actual day of the vela.The vela festival is the forum to enjoy the numerous folk arts like kummatti, karivela, andivela and many to mark the following days.
The nenmara vela starts from mandam or vela mandam & vallangi from siva temple.There will be 10- 15 elephants each for two groups .These elephants are decorated and along with the percussion instruments , they are paraded through the nenmara town.In the evening , these groups reach Nellikulangara temple.There is a vast area of empty rice fields , enough to accomodate a large crowd.
The nenmara vallangi vela is the occasion to celebrate the annual joint invocation of the Nellikulangara Bhagavathy by the people of nenmara and vallangi villages.
The Vela is a festival celebrated in the villages of the Palaghat & Thrissur districts in summer , after the harvest.The prominet crop in this area is rice.After the harvest , the fields are empty and dry , this is the time for pooram.

The middle of the month of April is the time when Nenmara in palakkad district gets set for the Nenmara vallangi vela.
